Mary's Pizza Shack is a small chain of 20 restaurants started by Mary Fazio, in 1959. Charles Byerly (Mary's grandson) and his wife, Kathy, have owned and operated the Redding and Anderson, CA locations for 13 years (since 2007).
When the pandemic hit and the California governor closed the restaurants, Charles and Kathy were suddenly facing the prospect of no income combined with a heartfelt responsibility for their 20 full time and 44 part time employees. Kathy turned to a friend at Shasta College who recommended the SBDC. Kathy contacted our lead advisor, Joe Rodola. Joe helped Charles and Kathy with the ins and outs of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program, as they shifted their focus from dine-in food to converting their parking lots to a drive-up and carry out model.
As a result of meeting with Joe, Charles and Kathy were able to obtain PPP and EIDL loans and save dozens of jobs.
