A young woman saw a niche opportunity in web design but had never owned a business and needed help getting started.
Challenge
Prior to approaching the Shasta-Cascade SBDC, Jessi Carrillo and her husband, Elias, had been active in web design for 10 years and had additional experience in marketing. But, they had never started a business.
Jessi saw an opportunity to offer web design services that would help business customers (who had limited website experience) while capitalizing on their success as they grew. The problem was, she had no idea how to get started and little idea about what to do once she got going.
Gameplan
Jessi and Elias turned to the Shasta Cascade SBDC for guidance. Jessi attended several of our free workshops and met with different advisors with specific fields of expertise: One helped her write a business plan and create financial forecasts, others assisted her with social media groups and networking, and she received guidance on financing.
Results
It didn’t take long for Jessi and Elias to open Waiive Web Design – and they quickly gained an outstanding reputation for professionalism, quality and value. Waiive has become one of the more successful web companies in Shasta County. Jessi said, “I owe a huge part, if not all, of my early success in business to [my advisors’] help and the SBDC.”
