Business Recovery Series: The Role of Innovation During COVID-19

Business Recovery Series: The Role of Innovation During COVID-19

Tuesday, November 10, 2020 9:00am to 10:00am

Join us for the fourth installment of this series as we go over business recovery topics.

The old saying, “Necessity is the mother of invention” is proving itself true during COVID-19. Companies are being forced to become smarter, or be left behind the curve. A few months ago, companies who had no idea what Zoom was have become experts at video conferencing. Restaurants that never considered offering take-out are now delivering to homes.

During this hour we will have presenters from the SBA and SBDC share about business recovery. This will include the latest business updates to help your business recover and how innovations can help your business survive and thrive.

SBA Resources to Help Your Business Rebound

The first half hour David Castaneda from Sacramento SBA District Office will provide a brief update of the latest business assistance/funding information including the following and a time for Q&A:

  • The Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program offered directly from the SBA
  • The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), offered through local lending institutions (until 8 Aug 2020)
  • Assistance available at no cost from our local resource partners, the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network, Women’s Business Center (WBC), and SCORE
  • SBA programs to access capital
  • Information on federal government contracting programs

The Role of Innovation During COVID-19

For the final half hour join high-tech startup entrepreneur and Shasta-Cascade SBDC Director David Walker as we discuss innovation and its role during COVID-19. It’s not just in our day-to-day lives where innovation has taken a front seat: government programs that foster commercial innovative ideas are seeing a deluge of proposals. Things are changing – and the change is happening quickly.

How do these innovations affect you and your business? And how can you manipulate them to your advantage?

This program will discuss:

  • The necessity of balancing health and safety with economic activity
  • Overview of innovations in use that allow companies to pivot
  • Innovations on the horizon that will enable us to transform the way we react to COVID
  • Innovations farther away that will result from our reaction to the pandemic
  • Possible innovative market opportunities and
  • Possible long term effects

Q&A will follow.

In over 30 years as an entrepreneur and consultant, David has founded and managed technology companies and has assisted hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses. He has served as a Board member for several companies and has over 25 years of direct experience in IP / patents and technology licensing. He has been working with SBIRs and STTRs since the mid-1990s, winning multiple Phase I and Phase II proposals with different agencies. He has also served as an SBIR/STTR proposal peer reviewer.
