Redding, CALIF. (May 16, 2019) — The Shasta-Cascade Small Business Development Center celebrated National Small Business Week last week in partnership with the Women’s Business Center JEDI to bring new trainings to the small business community in Shasta County.
The SBDC served approximately 50 businesses during small business week which included workshops centered on small business marketing and finance. The trainings were free and included guest presenter and serial restaurateur Louise Dawson from the Bay Area to help Redding-area restaurants learn the ins and outs of mastering food costs.
“Whether you’re a celebrity chef in San Francisco or running a sandwich shop in a small town, knowing the right formula to price your product is frequently the difference between staying in business or going under,” said Norcal SBDC Restaurant Program Manager Louise Dawson. “The SBDC wants to increase your odds of success.”
“Without the assistance and support of the SBDC, I’m not sure where we’d be today," said Leann Hartline of Hartline’s West Mex. Hartline is one of the many businesses in Trinity and Shasta counties that benefited from the free one-on-one business advising and trainings of the Shasta SBDC last year. In 2018, the Shasta Cascade SBDC helped entrepreneurs launch and grow 16 new businesses, helped to create 130 jobs, and assisted in helping Shasta and Trinity small businesses secure more than $5 Million in financing.
“We always jump on any opportunity to partner with the SBDC in our region. We can collectively always reach farther...” said Trisha Funk, Director of the Women’s Business Center at JEDI. “Our focus this year was to develop robust workshops that served our clients with well-defined steps that they could take away and immediately implement in their businesses.” JEDI had served 90 businesses last week, she said.
