Taking this course and successfully passing the exam will result in participants receiving the Food Handler's Certificate and Card, recognized by Napa and Sonoma County Health Departments. By the time you have finished this course, you will have a better understanding of what food-borne illnesses are, how they are caused, and what you can do to help prevent them. To obtain a California Food Handler Card, food handlers will need to successfully pass a food handler test. Food handlers must maintain a valid Food Handler Card for the duration of his/her employment. The cards are valid throughout most of the state including Napa & Sonoma Counties. Certification is valid for three years from issuance. Each food facility must maintain records documenting that each employee possesses a valid California Food Handler Card that can be provided to local enforcement officials upon request. This requirement was passed by the legislature, signed by the governor, and went into law on July 1, 2011. (Training includes Study Guide, Test, and Card).
